Keckiella ternata - Blue Stemmed Penstemon
Keckiella ternata is a midsized shrub growing 4-8 feet tall. Keckiella ternata has a variety of common names including Blue Stemmed Penstemon, Scarlet Keckiella, and Summer Bush Penstemon. Keckiella ternata grows in the Southern California Coastal and Transverse mountain ranges from the Chaparral to the Yellow Pine communities. Keckiella ternata has scarlet red tubular flowers late Spring into Summer. The flowers are fragrant and attract hummingbirds and the Common Buckeye and variable checkerspot butterfly making this a nice addition to the Butterfly Garden and Hummingbird Garden. Keckiella ternata is Winter hardy to 0°F.
