Penstemon grinnellii - Grinnell's Penstemon
Penstemon grinnellii forms dense clumps of foliage 12-18 inches tall and wide the lavender pink flowers extend on stalks to 3 feet. Penstemon grinnellii blooms in the later part of Spring. Grinnell's Penstemon grows on dry slopes often at higher elevations in the Coast Ranges. Penstemon grinnellii is not particular about soil types, but it is critical that drainage is excellent and Summers are fairly dry. Penstemon grinnellii is a great addition to the Hummingbird and Butterfly Gardens providing larval food for the Variable Checkerspot and Common Buckeye Butterflies.
