Mimulus Georgie Red - Georgie Red Monkey Flower
The hybrid Mimulus Georgie Red has rich red flowers with pale petal margins and is almost always sporting at least a few blooms. Mimulus Georgie Red grows well in full sun near the coast but prefers some mid day shade when planted in inland gardens. Good drainage conditions are required for the shrubby Mimulus cultivars. This can be accomplished by planting on a slope or mound with heavy soils if a drying out period is allowed between irrigation cycles. Mimulus Georgie Red is Winter hardy into the low 20°'s. The branches are easily broken. It is best to site Mimulus Georgie Red away from traffic, wayward hoses and shortcuts taken by the dogs and kids. Mimulus Georgie Red is a great addition to the Butterfly Garden and the Hummingbird Garden. Mimulus is a larval host plant for the Checkerspot and Common Buckeye Butterflies.
