California Gardens - The Year Round Gardening Site

Aloe arborescens * Torch Aloe

Aloe arborescens has a long history in California's gardens. The Torch Aloe can be found in older gardens for good reason. Aloe arborescens grows well without supplimental water in sun or shade. The orange flowers of Aloe arborescens have loads of nectar and attract hummingbirds, yellow rumped warblers, and plenty of other nectar feeders. The Torch Aloe is a staple of the Hummingbird Garden. Aloe arborescens blooms from the Fall through much of the Winter. Aloe arborescens grows in a massive shrublike clump up to 10 feet in diameter. Aloe arborescens is Winter hardy to the low 20°'s F.
