Penstemon eatonii forms dense clumps of foliage 12-18 inches tall and wide the red flowers extend in columnar sprays to 3 feet, the grey foliage mounds to about a foot tall. The Firecracker Penstemon blooms from late winter deep into Spring. Penstemon eatonii is not particular about soil types, but it is critical that drainage is excellent and Summers are fairly dry. Firecracker Penstemon is a great addition to the Hummingbird and Butterfly Garden attracting the Checkerspot Butterflies.
