Calochortus plummerae * Plummer's Mariposa Lily
Calochortus plummerae grows on rocky outcrops in the San Gabriel's and Coast Ranges in Southern California. The Plummer's Mariposa Lily is endemic to Southern California. Plants should not be taken from the wild, though hard to find this plant is available as bulbs or seed. Calochortus plummerae is a great drought tolerant choice for foothill gardens when it can be found. Calochortus plummerae grows in small pockets of earth on steep slopes, primarily on eastern exposures where the soil is moist in Spring and dry through the remainder of the year. Calochortus plummerae blooms through May and into the first part of June. The flowers are yellow and hairy with pink outer edges.
