Encelia californica El Dorado is noted for rich buttery yellow flowers and its early bloom. Encelia californica El Dorado grows to about 4 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Encelia californica is often found on the slopes near the coast. The California Brittle Bush is often included in seed mixes used for repairing slopes and road shoulders. The Coast Sunflower blooms almost all year, but the best blooming periods are in the Spring and Fall. Encelia californica is tolerant of a wide variety of soils, but must dry out some between irrigation cycles. Encelia californica will naturally cross with Encelia farinosa if both are planted nearby. Encelia californica is frost tender. Encelia californica attracts the Monarch, Common Buckeye, Painted Lady, Cloudless Sulfur, White Checkered Skipper, Northern White Skipper, California Common Ringlet, Mormon Metalmark, Great Purple Hairstreak, Giant Swallowtail, and Spring Azure Butterflies.
