Achillea millefolium Desert Paprika * Desert Paprika Yarrow
Achillea Desert Paprika has finely dissected green leaves. The fragrant foliage grows 8-12" tall. The pastel orange flowers are most prevalent in the Spring and into the early Summer but will sporadically bloom through to frost. Removing spent flower stalks extends the flowering season. Desert Paprika Yarrow gradually spreads by underground runners and is easily divided in the Fall. I have yet to see damage due to cold. Achillea Desert Paprika does look a bit bedraggled while enduring Winter. A good shearing as things warm up in Spring has the Desert Paprika Yarrow looking great. Achillea Desert Paprika can withstand a summer of drought in our inland valleys in all but the hottest and driest parts of the garden. Achillea millefolium varieties can be planted in a shady garden as a lawn substitute. They will occaisionally flower and require infrequent mowing. Achillea Desert Paprika is a nectar source for the Checkerspot Butterfly, Mormon Metalmark, California Common Ringlet, Painted Lady Butterfly, Great Purple Hairstreak, Northern White Skipper, and the White Checkered Skipper and is a great addition to the butterfly garden.
