Achillea millefolium Apple Blossom * Apple Blossom Yarrow
The soft green leaves of Achillea Apple Blossom will tolerate foot traffic. Traffic is not so good for the flowers but brings up the scent of the fragrant foliage. Any of the Achillea millefolium varieties are a great lawn substitute. The pink flowers on Apple Blossom Yarrow go from a brilliant deep pink fading to light pink before fading to buff. Achillea Apple Blossom will bloom in Spring and much of the summer. These yarrows are hardy in a significant drought but like a little water now and again and will look much better for it. I use the Achillea Apple Blossom in a perennial border or massed to give a long lasting multicolored pink. Achillea millefolium varieties can be used for a lawn substitute and germinate readily from seed.
Achillea Apple Blossom is a nectar source for the Checkerspot Butterfly and Painted Lady Butterfly, Northern White Skipper, Mormon Metalmark, California Common Ringlet, Great Purple Hairstreak, and the White Checkered Skipper and is a great addition to the butterfly garden.
