Abutilon Mango Cheesecake - Mango Cheesecake Chinese Lantern
Abutilon Mango Cheesecake is a medium sized shrub growing to 3-5 feet but easily kept trimmed to size. I feel like a have a bit of the tropics around me with the Abutilon hybrids and yet they are amazingly cold hardy considering the tropical look of the plant, weathering winter temperatures near 25°F for me and I hear even colder for others. The unusual shape of the flower catches my attention. I like the pastel apricot color of the flowers, they mix well with so many other colors. Hummingbirds feed from the Chinese Lantern flowers by reaching in between the sepals and petals to seek out the nectaries. Abutilon Mango Cheesecake is almost always sporting flowers, this photo was taken in mid January from an outdoor planting.
