Nigella damascena ~ Love in a Mist

Nigella damascena, or Love in a Mist, is an annual in the buttercup family. Nigella damscena will freely reseed in a garden that is kept on the dry side. Raking, blowing till there is only dirt or a heavy covering of mulch will keep seed from sprouting. Summer irrigation will rot the seed. But scatter some seeds and step back, this is an excellent plant for the laissez faire wildflower garden. Love in a Mist will grow in full sun to light shade in areas that don't get too much traffic. Nigella damascena is great for filling gaps between all of the other plants with delicate white to blue flowers. The dried pods of Love in a Mist are great for dried flower arrangements. Collect a few pods and add these to your garden.
