Scabiosa columbaria Pink Mist - Dove Pincushion Flower
Scabiosa columbaria Pink Mist is the hardiest cultivar that I have seen. Pink Mist is more compact than the cultivar Butterfly Blue and the flowers last longer. This pincushion flower forms a mound that is 8" tall and 18" wide, the soft pink flowers are borne on 4-6" stalks. Adult butterflies are attracted to the flowers for their nectar. Snipping off the spent blooms encourages new flowers and keeps the plants looking tidy. Scabiosa columbaria is native to East Africa. Scabiosa columbaria Pink Mist can be expected to bloom through the Spring and Summer if the spent blossoms are removed. The Painted Lady, Gray Hairstreak, Variable Checkerspot Gulf Frittilary, White Checkered Skipper, and Western Tiger Swallowtail will drop by for a sip of nectar if they are around.
