Lepechinia calycina works well in a garden setting. The White Pitcher Sage blooms Winter into Spring with 2 inch white to pale pink or pale lavender flowers. The foliage of the California Pitcher Sage foliage is intensely fragrant when touched or crushed. Lepechinia calycina is a California Native found in woodland settings and seeps and into the chaparral and lower pine woodlands. Lepechinia calycina grows in full sun to fairly dense shade. The will tolerate winter wet conditions but prefers a dry summer with irrigation cycles between a couple of weeks and once a month. Butterflies like the Mournful Duskywing, Spring Azure, White Checkered Skipper, Northern White Skipper, and Cloudless Sulfur will often be attracted too. The White Pitcher Sage can tolerate temperatures that dip into the low 20°s F and likely lower.
