Lavandula stoechas Otto Quast - Spanish Lavender
Lavandula stoechas Otto Quast has these fabulous pale purple rabbit ears and dark purple flowers. In all other regards Lavandula stoechas Otto Quast will look and grow just like the other Lavandula stoechas cultivars. They are easy to grow, they stay low, they bloom for a long time, from Spring into Summer. Even longer if you have the inclination to cut off all of the dead flower heads. Lavandula stoechas Otto Quast has low water needs and is great for the Drought tolerant garden. Lavenders are busy waystations for insects and are necter sources for a host of bees and butterflies. I often include Lavenders in the butterfly garden plans. The Gray Hairstreak, Fiery Skipper, Mournful Duskywing, Common Buckeye, White Checkered Skipper, Northern White Skipper, and California Dogface Butterflies will sip nectar. Spanish lavender will tolerate temperatures into the low teens or even single digits.
