Pacific Coast Hybrid Iris
Iris douglasiana is California native iris that grows in mixed evergreen forests and oak woodlands. Iris douglasiana has been hybridized with a number of the other Iris in California, Oregon and Washington including Iris hartwegii. The collection of hybrids is often called Pacific Coast Hybrids in the nurseries when they are mixed. Many of the color forms have been named individually. Native Iris are most often seen in a shaded environment inland and can take more exposure as they get the protection of the humidity of the coast. They require some drainage and drying between watering cycles. This is a collage of a few of the Pacific Coast Hybrid Iris cultivars that are on the market.
