Quercus muehlenbergii - Chinkapin Oak
Quercus muehlenbergii is native to the US east of the Rockies. Given time Chinkapin Oak grows to 40-60 feet tall and wide. Quercus muehlenbergii is drought tolerant once established. Though it lives in rocky soils in the wild Quercus muehlenbergii prefers well drained loam and regular irrigation. The foliage of Quercus muehlenbergii is quite colorful in the Fall. Quercus muelenbergii can be a host plant for the Hedgerow Hairstreak and the Western Tussock Moth Caterpillar.
