Mirabilis multiflora - Colorado Four O'Clock, Showy Four O'Clock
Mirabilis multiflora almost looks like an azalea when you are driving down the road, the flowers are so big and profuse. I mistook it for one the first time I saw it by the mailbox of an old abandoned farmhouse and had to go back for a better look. The dark magenta purple of the flowers contrasts nicely with the gray foliage. Mirabilis multiflora blooms Summer into the first part of Fall. The flowers open during the morning and evening. Mirabilis multiflora grows 3 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide. Mirabilis multiflora is very drought tolerant. In fact it is pretty drought insistant. Regular water will kill Mirabilis multiflora pretty quickly during the warmer months. The Showy Four O'Clock will go Winter decicuous.
