Magnolia Galaxy
Magnolia Galaxy is a popular hybrid with large rich pink flowers. The flowers come on before the leaves in early Spring and fade as they age. Magnolia Galaxy grows as an upright tree, capable of reaching 30 feet or more in height, spreading a little more than half of its height. Magnolia Galaxy is Winter hardy to well below anything likely to be seen in California. Our greatest difficulty with growing Magnolia Galaxy is that in the inland valleys where there is enought chill we often get a warm spell in the middle of Winter that stimulates the flowers to come out before the last frost. Magnolia galaxy requires some internal shaping as it tends to send a fair number of branches in all of the wrong directions. Fortunately magnolia foliage and fresh cut wood smell great. This tree is located in one of the coldest microclimates in our inland valley. After 7 years of growth Magnolia Galaxy is about 15 feet tall.
