Eschscholzia minutiflora - Pygme Poppy
Eschscholzia minutiflora is a diminutive poppy that is often found along the desert trails of Southern California. The Pygme Poppy grows along sandy washes and scree slopes in areas that become extremely dry in the summer. In smaller gardens and rock gardens, using Eschscholzia minutiflora instead of Eschscholzia californica can help to keep the garden more tidy. Eschscholzia parishii has larger flowers but can often be found in the same desert regions and also blooms with yellow flowers at the same time as Eschscholzia minutiflora. Pygme Poppy Seed will be harder to find but it is generally available. Using Eschscholzia minutiflora in addition to the California Poppy will extend the garden's blooming season as they don't bloom at quite the same times.
