Eryngium planum ~ Blue Eryngo, Flat Sea Holly
Eryngium planum grows to around 2 feet. The Blue Eryngo or Flat Sea Holly is a sought after cut flower dry or fresh for its blue flowers and sculpural seed heads. Eryngium planum is Winter hardy to zone 5. Eryngium planum is native to Central and Southeastern Europe. The Flat Sea Holly is drought tolerant and will not perform in a moist setting. Eryngium planum blooms late Spring to Fall. Plants do best in Full Sun. Our plants go dormant for the winter and multiply and spread slowly each year. Eryngium planum attracts the Painted Lady, Great Purple Hairstreak, Hedgerow Hairstreak, Gray Hairstreak, Common Buckeye, California Common Ringlet, Mormon Metalmark, with its nectar and is a nice addition to the butterfly garden.
