Ceanothus megacarpus is a mid-sized to large shrub growing to 8-10 feet tall and wide. The Bigpod Ceanothus can be found on South facing exposures in the Coast Ranges of Southern California up to an elevation of 2500 feet. Ceanothus megacarpus is a common shrub found in the chaparral. The Bigpod Ceanothus blooms with white flowers from late Winter into early Spring. Ceanothus megacarpus can be found on well drained slopes or rocky outcrops. Ceanothus megacarpus is a host plant for the Western Tussock Moth Caterpillar, Hedgerow Hairstreak, California Common Ringlet, and the Pale Tiger Swallowtail and is an early season nectar source for the Spring Azure and Monarch Butterfly.
