Banksia ericifolia - Heath Banksia
Banksia ericifolia is a moderate to large shrub growing to 10 x 10 feet or more. The orange red flowers grow on older wood Fall into Winter. Plant on a slope or in well drained soil. Banksia ericifolia prefers full sun and is drought tolerant once established. Banksia ericifolia gets 30" of rain in its native Australian habitat but has performed well with minimal supplimental drip irrigation in our gardens getting half that rainfall. Our Banksia ericifolia plants have survived sub-20°F night temperatures in good form. The hummingbirds like the orange flowers.
