Anemone Honorine Jobert ~ Single White Windflower, Thimbleweed
The Japanese Anemone Honorine Jobert, like all of the Japanese Anemones spreads by underground runners. This is never a problem in the fall while they are blooming. It is the rest of the year that one sometimes has some second thoughts. The runners are not difficult to head back or dig out. So, with flowers like these I plant Anemone Honorine Jobert anyways. There is almost always a place in the garden for some white flowers. I love single flowers and this large white Windflower is a standout. Anemone Honorine Jobert usually grows 3-4 feet tall but can reach above head height in good conditions. I try to plant Anemone Honorine Jobert in a spot that would be difficult for other plants to grow because this Thimbleweed will perform in spite of the hardships. This makes Anemone Honorine Jobert a great plant for dark corners, background nooks, and even a groundcover to mix with larger shrubs. The Japanese Anemone will spread by runners, sometimes a couple of feet per year. Japanese anemone plants are hardy into the mid teens. This is a longtime garden hybrid dating back into the 1800's or before.
