Sabal palmetto - Saw palmetto

Sabal palmetto trees can get to 90 feet tall, though that would be unlikely here on the West coast. The Saw Palmetto Palms are noted for their medicinal properties as well as their tropical beauty. They have small 1/2" black fruit. The oils of the fruit are extracted for medical preparations. Sabal palmetto is native to Florida and the Carolinas and the Bahamas. Their range also extends into Texas. The minimum temperatures they can take are in the low 20°s F. That leaves a lot of California with potential for growing these beautiful Sabal palmetto trees.
