Tabebuia chrysotricha - Golden Trumpet Tree
Tabebuia chrysotricha is a small to medium tree. Tabebuia chrysotricha will bloom in shade, though it looks its best in full sun. The Golden Trumpet Tree will grow to 20 feet in time and blooms with spectacular golden yellow flowers in April and May. I bought a Golden Trumpet Tree for my yard just before one of the record breaking cold snaps. It did not survive 16° F in a container. Tabebuia chrysotricha might have held on in the ground or if the frost had lifted a little sooner. It was one of my gardening disappointments. I have been able to grow Tabebuia chrysotricha in coastal gardens but it is probably a risky choice for an inland garden unless you are in the banana belt. Tabebuia chrysotricha has deep trumpet shaped flowers that draw in the hummingbirds. Several crosses with pink to purple flowering Tabebuia impetiginosa are on the market including the gorgeous Tabebuia Apricot.
