Scutellaria mexicana grows 3-4 feet tall and wide. The Paperbag Bush is native to the California deserts. Scutellaria mexicana has a calyx that inflates as the blue and white flowers fade. The inflated calyx goes from a rich red, to nearly white before turning paperbag brown. Scutellaria mexicana has grey foliage but will drop most of its leaves when drought stressed. Scutellaria mexican blooms in the Spring and may rebloom after rain or watering.
