Plecostachys serpyllifolia - Cobweb Bush
Plecostachys serpyllifolia is a dense low growing tangled shrub. It goes by the common names of Cobweb Bush and Petite Licorice. Plecostachys serpyllifolia was in the nursery trade as a Helichrysum and has much the same character as Helichrysum petiolare but with a finer texture. Plecostachys serpyllifolia grows in sun or dry shade. Plants are quite drought tolerant. This plant is a risk to be invasive and has even been found growing wild on the margins of wetlands and seeds often germinate in garden settings. Plecostachys serpyllifolia is well adapted to being near the coast and seems quite salt tolerant. Plecostachys serpyllifolia has clusters of lavender/pink and white flowers in the late Spring, Summer and Fall. Plecostachys serpyllifolia grows to 3 feet tall and 5 feet or more wide but recovers well from a hard shearing if need be. Plecostachys serpyllifolia is native to South Africa.
