Pimelea ferruginea - Pink Rice Flower
Pimelea ferruginea forms a tidy rounded shrub with small dark green shiny leaves. The Pink Rice Flower grows 2-3 feet tall and is usually a little wider than tall. Pimelea ferruginea seems to always be blooming. The Pink Rice Flower should be planted back from a traffic zone as the plants are quite brittle and take some time to recover from errant hoses and wild kids or dogs, all prominent issues in my garden. I like to use Pimelia ferruginea for the glossy green leaves as much as the abundant pink flowers. Finding plants that tolerate drought and that are this green is difficult. Pimelea ferruginea is Winter hardy into the low to mid 20°s F.
