Phylica pubescens - Featherhead

Phylica pubescens looks great when the sun glints off the many feathery leaves and bracts. Featherhead is mildly fragrant, with maybe a hint of cinnimon. Phylica pubescens is a medium sized shrub growing to 5-6 feet tall and wide. Plants are drought tolerant once established. Phylica pubescens has small white flowers in the Fall and Winter that are hardly noticed. The showy golden bracts that surround the flowers are what makes Featherhead attractive, particularly in low angle light. Phylica pubescens is often used in the cut flower industry. Plants will survive Winter temperatures that dip into the low 20°s F.
