Ochna serrulata, the Mick Mouse Plant grows to 4-8 feet tall and wide. Ochna serrulata goes by Carnival Ochna and Bird's Eye Bush as well. Ochna serrulata has yellow flowers Winter into Spring. Much of what you see is the red seed pods and prominent black seeds that could be Mickey's Ears. Ochna serrulata grows in dense shade to full sun, flowering far better with the stronger light. The seeds are fertile and often sprout. This has been a problem in Australia and New Zealand where this plant has become a pest. Ochna serrulata is native to South Africa and doesn't seem to be bothered by a dry season or two. Ochna serrulata is Winter hardy into the low 20's°.
