Loropetalum chinense rubrum Burgundy - Burgundy Chinese Fringe Flower
Loropetalum chinense rubrum Burgundy is distinct from the other Chinese Fringe Flower cultivars in that the new foliage comes out bronze-red and it has magenta pink flowers. As it ages the foliage turns green. This shrub will slowly grow to 8 feet or more tall and wide. Burgundy Chinese Fringe Flower will grow in sun or shade and a variety of soils. Loropetalum chinense prefers to be on the dry side, which makes this an ideal plant for the shade garden under oaks. It seems like Loropetalum chinense rubrum Burgundy always has some magenta blossoms, though there are fewer in the winter. The Burgundy Chinese Fringe Flower is tolerant of temperatures into the low teens. Loropetalum chinense drops most or all of its leaves if the temperatures drop that low. This plant is about the same as Loropetalum Sizzling Pink.
