Lessingia filaginafolia ~ California Aster
Lessingia filaginafolia is a California Native perennial with a long blooming season. The California Aster is often in flower from Spring into Fall. The California Aster is also found under its other name Corethrogyne filaginafolia. There is a variety often found in the trade with gray leaves and pink flowers that is called Silver Carpet. Lessingia filaginafolia is native to the coast ranges and the Southern half of the Sierra's up to an elevation of 8000 feet. Lessingia filaginafolia grows to a foot or so tall and has white to pink flowers. Lessingia filaginafolia is a food source for the Painted Lady Butterfly, California Dogface Butterfly, Cloudless Sulfur, Common Buckeye, Gray Hairstreak, Great Purple Hairstreak, Hedgerow Hairstreak, White Checkered Skipper, Northern White Skipper, Mormon Metalmark, and the White Lined Sphinx Moth and is a great addition to the butterfly garden. Lessingia filaginafolia is winter hardy to 20°F.
