Lavatera purisima - Purisima Tree Mallow
Lavatera Purisima is a cultivar of the Channel Island's Lavatera assurgentiflora and Lavatera venosa from off Baja. The Purisima Tree Mallow will readily grow to 8 feet tall and 10 feet or more in width. Lavatera purisima has large striped magenta purple flowers Spring through Fall. It tends to be rather weak stemmed and will flop and spread rather than to grow much taller. Our plants have not been touched by temperatures that dipped into the low 20°s F. Lavatera purisima just kept blooming straight through the whole season. Plants will grow in light shade to full sun. Lavatera purisima is a nectar source for the Painted Lady Butterfly and the Northern White Skipper and White Checkered Skipper, and is a great addition to the butterfly garden.
