Ipomoea jalapa * Jalap
The roots of Ipomoea jalapa were used by Lewis and Clark. Jalap was part of thier medic package. Ipomea jalapa has pink flowers with white centers. Ipomoea jalapa is native to Mexico around Jalapa. It was added to the European medicine cabinet in the 1500's. Ipomoea jalapa prefers great soil and is still in demand by herbalists. Ipomoea jalapa is a vigorous vine in the right conditions. This plant was found growing in a near frost free neighborhood near Los Angeles. Carrying a bit of root is supposed to provide good luck.
