Spathodea campanulata * African Tulip Tree
Spathodea campanulata, the African Tulip Tree, is a fast growing tree in its youth. Spathodea campanulata can get 50-80 feet tall if in good enough garden conditions. The African Tulip Tree has clusters of large 4" orange flowers, primarily in the Fall. Spathodea campanulata is evergreen if the Winter temperatures stay warm enough. Spathodea campanulata is frost sensitive and will go deciduous with frost and will likely perish or be burnt back to the roots in the mid-20°s F. Spathodea campanulata has naturalized in warm tropical climates. The African Tulip Tree is becomming more common as nurseries have grown them more often.
