Origanum rotundifolium Kent Beauty
Origanum rotundifolium Kent Beauty is one of the most ornamental of the Oregano's. I have had good success growing Origanum rotundifolium Kent Beauty in moderate to heavy soils and with regular irrigation but it hangs in for the Summer even if there is little water available. Origanum rotundifolium Kent Beauty is hardy with temperatures that dip into the teens. I winter prune Origanum rotundifolium Kent Beauty almost flush to the ground, the plants come up strong in the late Winter and bloom with small lavender pink flowers from Spring through Fall but the bracts are the real show here. A heat wave will sometimes knock Origanum rotundifolium Kent Beauty back a bit. I trim it back and this ornamental oregano starts blooming anew. My plants have gotten about 8-10 inches tall and spread to 2 feet or as far as they can find water. The bed where I am growing Origanum rotundifolium Kent Beauty is edged in a low rock wall. The plants creep around the rocks and make a soft border to the pathway.
