Lorquin's Admiral Butterfly - Basilarchia lorquini

The Lorquin's Admiral Butterfly has two brood a season and is often seen between late Spring and early Fall. Host plants include Willows, Poplars, Catalina Cherry and the Holly Leaf Cherry in our area. More unusual in a garden, the Cream Bush, Holodiscus discolor attracts them too. The Lorquin's Admiral will often set with its wings half open as this one is. And will investigate anything that comes into their area. The Lorquin's Admiral will often fly around and return to the same perch. The similar but larger California Sister Butterfly has more distinct orange wing patches and is paler in color.
