Lasthenia californica - Goldfields
Lasthenia californica forms a brilliant golden carpet for its part of the Spring. Masses of Goldfields are a great addition to the wildflower garden. Individually the yellow flowers are tiny. Goldfields are an annual. Lasthenia californica grows 1-3 inches tall. Wildflower seed is most likely to succeed if scattered in the fall with the first significant rains of the season in a sunny part of the garden. Lasthenia californica will come back in successive seasons best if Summer irrigation is not applied to the area the Goldfields are growing. Lasthenia californica grows throughout much of California below an elevation of 4000 feet. Lasthenia is a fine addition to the Spring Butterfly Garden attracting the Painted Lady Butterfly, California Common Ringlet, Hedgerow Hairstreak, and the White Checkered Skipper
