Erythronium grandiflorum - Glacier Lily, Yellow Avalanche Lily
Erythronium grandiflorum grows as the snow recedes giving it the common names Glacier Lily and Yellow Avalanche Lily. Erythronium grandiflorum is native to the mountains of Northern California and the Rockies. Erythronium grandiflorum will be found where the meltwater from snow provides for its moment of glory. Erythronium grandiflorum grows in full sun to light shade and blooms between Spring and early Summer. Two large green leaves followed by a stalk up to a foot or so tall with 1-3 yellow flowers. Erythronium grandiflorum will grow from streamside to drying meadows. Erythronium is an important food source for grizzley bears in the rockies. Deer will eat the foliage.
