Coreopsis grandiflora Sunray * Sunray Tickseed
When it comes to all out color Coreopsis Sunray is hard to beat. At times there are more golden yellow flowers than I have patience for and because of this I ration how many of these that I will use in a landscape. It just takes too long to make Coreopsis Sunray look good if you use too many. If you don't take off the flowers they stop blooming for the season. When I use Coreopsis Sunray for highlights in sunny locations and keep their numbers within reason this is an excellent source for summer color. I cut Coreopsis Sunray back nearly to the ground in the winter. In coastal gardens they can get mildew. I cut Coreopsis Sunray back as if it were winter and often get an additional show. Coreopsis is a plant for the Butterfly Garden attracting the Painted Lady and Mormon Metalmark
