Chionanthus retusus - Chinese Fringe Tree
Chionanthus retusus, the Chinese Fringe Tree will do well as the centerpoint of a meadow or lawn. The white flowers are spectacular and last much of the Spring. Chionanthus retusus flowers fade to black seeds as Spring moves to Summer. Chionanthus retusus, is a great small tree, topping out at the 20 foot range, and fairly easily pruned smaller. The Chinese Fringe Tree is hardy to 15°F. I like that the leaves and flower bits are small enough to fall through the shrubbery below.
