Camassia quamash ~ Camas
Camassia quamash grows well in the garden and has a history of being an important food source. Camas grows in meadows, rocky outcrops, and open woodlands at elevations between 2000 and 8000 feet. Camassia quamash grows 1-2 feet tall, leaves at the base and a slender flower stalk supporting blue flowers. Camas blooms late Spring into early Summer. Camassia quamash is often found in a moist meadow but will tolerate a variety of soil conditions including clay. In the garden Camassia quamash prefers moist well drained, well mulched soils and dry end of Summer conditions.
