Brodiaea elegans ssp elegans, Triteleia elegans ~ Harvest Brodiaea
Brodiaea elegans is one of the more easily grown California native bulbs, reliably blooming year after year. Brodiaea elegans has become Triteleia elegans, though many of the nurseries have not yet made the transition. The Harvest Brodiaea grows up to 7000 feet in grasslands and open woodlands. Brodiaea elegans is typically found in a dry habitat. Blue flowers stand out agains the colors of dried grasslands. Bulbs in the garden will do best if allowed to dry out somewhat in the Summer. While they will tolerate some Summer water putting them near a lawn is not the good plan. Brodiaea elegans will bloom into the Summer months when provided with irrigation that mimics the Sierra thundershowers.
