Broad Tailed Hummingbird ~ Selasphorus platycercus
The Broad Tailed Hummingbirds come to breed in the higher elevations 5000-10,000 feet in the Western United States. In California they are mostly limited to the Central Sierra Nevada Range at elevation. Broad Tailed Hummingbirds nest during the Summer months. The male will display with huge dives and then climb back into the sky. The female hovers, often within the foliage of a tree or shrub, darting back and forth. During the Winter months the Broad Tailed Hummingbirds migrate back to Mexico. Attract hummingbirds to your garden.
