Asperagus densiflorus Myers * Foxtail Fern
Asperagus densiflorus Myers is an evergreen perennial. The Foxtail Fern makes me think of underwater plants. Asperagus densiflorus Myers grows 2-3 feet tall and wide. The green stalks of the Foxtail Fern last a couple of years and then need to be thinned out. Asperagus densiflorus Myers grows in sun or shade and requires only a little supplimental water in a shady coastal garden. Asperagus densiflorus Myers blooms in Spring with small white flowers followed by red berries. Seedlings happen but not at a pest level. Asperagus densiflorus Myers is a little prickley and the sap can be a skin irritant. Deer will eat most of the rest of the garden before eating the Foxtail Fern. Asperagus densiflorus Myers is Winter hardy to 20-25°F.
