Syagrus romanzoffianum ~ Queen Palm (syn Arecastrum romanzoffianum)
The Queen Palm is a large palm that can rapidly grow to 50 feet. The leaves are graceful and arch, where the King Palm leaves are rather rigid. The Queen Palm fronds fall off cleanly though they may hang up there for awhile. The feather shaped fronds can get 10 to 15 feet long. The base of the palm frond is rather heavy and can damage a car when falling from height. The Queen Palm is damaged by frost in the high 20's though I have seen survivors of 18° F. It took nearly 2 years to come back. The Queen Palm is still sometimes sold as Cocos plumosa.
