Anna's Hummingbird ~ Calypte anna
The Anna's Hummingbird is the largest and most common Hummingbird on the West coast. The Anna's Hummingbird is a common visitor to feeders ( hummingbird feeder recipe). We have a long list of plants that the Anna's Hummingbird will feed upon (see our Hummingbird Garden list). Some of these plants become the center point for a territorial battle between hummingbirds as they vie for feeding rights. The male Anna's Hummingbird has a spectacular ruby throat. The red markings extend through the forehead. The first year and female Anna's Hummingbirds are grey and green and pretty hard to distinguish.Attract hummingbirds to your garden.
