Woodwardia unigemmata - Chinese Chain Fern

Woodwardia unigemmata grows with arched fronds growing 2-3 feet tall and spreading to 6 feet or more. The Chinese Chain Fern grows in the shade, fronds can get burnt in direct sunlight. Woodwardia unigemmata often goes dormant in the winter. Cut it back so you can see the new fronds as the grow back. The fronds of the Chinese Chain Fern are red as they come in and often colorful as they fade. Woodwardia unigemmata is more resistant to disease than Woodwardia fimbriata in many garden settings. For a fern Woodwardia unigemmata is quite drought tolerant.
