Scabiosa atropurpurea Royal Ruby ~ Royal Ruby Pincushion Flower

Scabiosa Royal Ruby grows 18" tall. The plants slowly spread from the base. The Royal Ruby Pincushion Flower will produce many more of these spectacular 1" Ruby Red flowers with white stamens. The Royal Ruby Pincushion Flower will bloom Spring through Fall if the spent flowers are removed. Scabiosa Royal Ruby is hardy into the mid-20°s F and likely below if well mulched. Scabiosa Royal Ruby requires regular irrigation but is not particular about soils or exposure. If planted in the shade Scabiosa Royal Ruby may require support to keep the flowers from tipping. The Painted Lady, Gray Hairstreak, White Checkered Skipper, Variable Checkerspot, Gulf Frittilary, and Western Tiger Swallowtail will drop by for a sip of nectar if they are around.
