Saponaria lempergii Max Frei is a pleasant addition to the perennial bed. Soapwort has a long history of garden use. Saponaria lempergii Max Frei is a hybrid of two species S. cypria and S. hausknechtii that has pale pink flowers and red sepals. Soapworts mixed in water were used to wash clothes and dishes. Saponaria lempergii Max Frei blooms from late Spring into Fall. Saponaria lempergii Max Frei is drought tolerant and easy to take care of, requiring only a sharp winter pruning. Saponaria lempergii Max Frei grow to 18" tall and slowly spreads. Saponaria lempergii Max Frei is hardy to well below 0° F.
